Tom and I were out shopping last weekend and I thought for a moment about a new spring coat. We wandered into Marshall Fields and located the coat section...

All was well untill we discovered the coat section was right next to the ugly er, prom dress section.

Apparently, teenage girls are going blind in droves. That is the only thing I can think of to explain the array of dresses at Marshall Fields. There were something on the order of 5 racks of dresses in every shade of aqua you can dream up. There was a pink, green and black striped dress with the bubble hem and pouffy sleeves. Oh yes, you read that right - the bubble hem has returned. There was even a lovely floor length Rainbow Brite dress skirted in tulle streaked with all the colors of a Pride parade.

I walked out with no coat because the only mirror in the section was located in front of said dresses. Nothing can look good with those dresses as a backdrop. Nothing.
