It's a mad,mad world

What is it about this time of year? Just when it's starting to get nice outside the whole world goes and gets crazy busy.

Work was crazy, CRAZY busy last week, and I had picked that to be the week that we tie up a bunch of house projects in advance of the floor refinishers coming in. We spackled. And painted. And painted. And patched ceilings. And painted some more! And had the tub resurfaced and moved furniture and finished baseboards for the rooms getting floor refinishing and cleaned and organized. Phew.

Then we moved to my sister's house in St. Paul on Saturday.

I'm a friggin technology addict. Staying at Amber's house is really helpful (it's hard to have the entire living area of your house out of commission and still live there!), but it also means we are sans cable, Tivo and internet for a whole week. Ack!

About every 15 minutes I think of something I want to know (a recipe, news, the phone number for the flooring contractor, this week's This American Life Topic, etc) that I would normally look up on that "series of tubes" we call the internet. But no. No internet. I'm starting to feel hoplessly uninformed and disconnected, as though I've been tossed out on the side of the internet superhighway to die. *sniffle*

This also means that the limited amout of TV we're watching over the air (!) includes ALL the commercials. We've been pretty busy so our TV watching is limited to the hours of about 9PM and midnight. Have you watched the commercials they put on TV at these hours? Last night at 11PM I counted 5 "dating hotline" commericals in one 30 minute episode of King of the Hill. All touted the 'hotness' of the people who call their dating lines.

Apparently, hidden away in the apartment buildings and duplexes of the Twin Cities, there are caches of homebound hot people just waiting for your call. They want to hook up, yes they do! These people are so fun and so cool that they are at home mid-week watching King of the Hill in syndication with no Tivo to skip past these blasted commercials. The hotness is radiating like asphalt on a 100 degree day....

You know, I think I'm starting to feel pretty good about my technology addiction.
